As the 2024 Paris Olympics draws near, the event has adopted a minimalist approach, with no performances during the opening ceremony and the Olympic Village equipped with only fans instead of air conditioners, both of which have sparked heated discussions among netizens. Recently, the Thai table tennis team has arrived in Paris to prepare for the Games. The Thai athletes have taken to social media to vent their frustration over the sweltering heat in their dormitories and the lack of air conditioning in the buses, with the topic "Thai Athletes Want to Cool Off in Chinese Team's Dorm" trending on Weibo.
Thai female table tennis singles player Orawan posted on her Instagram, "It's already so hot with just five of us sitting together. Imagine if the whole bus is full, someone might faint before we even reach our destination."
"Is there any organization that can help? The air conditioning in the bus is too hot, and it takes 45 minutes to get to the training ground."
Moreover, table tennis athlete Jinnipa also complained about the scorching heat in Paris and the buses without air conditioning. As she passed by the Chinese team's dormitory, she expressed her envy, saying, "I heard that the Chinese team has brought air conditioners and chefs. I really want to go cool off in their dorm and have some braised noodles with green beans."
It is reported that a primary focus of this Olympics is addressing global warming. The organizing committee aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to the 2012 London Olympics. Consequently, emphasis has been placed on retrofitting existing buildings rather than constructing new ones to minimize the use of cement and carbon dioxide emissions during construction. Furthermore, air conditioners are banned in the Olympic Village, and vehicles traveling to competition venues are also prohibited from using air conditioning. The food menu has also been designed to minimize carbon dioxide emissions during cooking processes.
