On August 6, Thai media reported that officials from Thai government departments recently revealed that Tesla has chosen to abandon plans to build a production base in Thailand and will instead focus on the construction of charging stations.
It is understood that during Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's state visit to the United States last November, he met with Tesla executives to discuss and reach a consensus on Tesla building an electric vehicle production center in Thailand. Subsequently, during Prayut's participation in the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Summit in the United States, he was invited to visit Tesla's production factory in California and posed for a photo with the Tesla flagship electric vehicle Cybertruck produced at the factory. On November 28, Prayut and the leader of the Phalang Pracharat Party, Sudirawa, received Tesla executives in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and disclosed that they were surveying three potential factory sites in Thailand, with an expected investment of $5 billion to be announced in the first quarter of this year.
However, according to reliable sources, due to the company's development strategy, Tesla has decided to cancel plans to invest and build a production base in Thailand and will focus on the construction of charging stations in the later stage. Not only in Thailand, but Tesla's plans to invest and build factories in various other countries and regions around the world, except for China, the United States, and Germany, have been suspended for now.
